Building a Taj Mahal for your lover is not an option anymore considering the obvious numerous problems but that in no ways stops you from making something real and life-size for the one you care most. Imagine an Indian who settled in far-east Island nation Japan, 30 odd years back and married a local, but as they keep coming to Delhi and his wife’s indispensable love for Japanese food needed to be satiated.  The man didn’t think twice and opened the finest Japanese restaurant across the capital overlooking a beautiful view.

That’s the story of Mr Raji Sandhar Singh, who is happy keeping himself away from the limelight. He feels if your product is good, it would speak for itself and so is the case with En. The lavish fine dine-in Mehrauli overlooking Qutub Minar, which boasts of being the only Japanese Restaurant with a Japanese Chef, a Japanese manager and a translator to save you from sweating it out. That’s not all to this man, Mr Sandhar Singh even owns the most popular Indian restaurant in Japan, which was an outcome of his undeniable lust for Indian food.

What sets them apart from other Japanese places is their fight for authenticity; the most common and the easily available ingredients are also being sourced from Japan, to rule out any potential low-grade product. A simple example would be the soy sauce, which can be easily sourced in Delhi but why are they paying 10x cost and yet importing it from Japan? The chef explains Indian make are pungent and inclined towards salt (which is an undeniable fact) the Japanese ones are mild and blend in the food so easily without overpowering it.

The world seems to be going forwards and embracing fusion as the go-to option, while they and some others strive to go local and stick to old-school acts and recipes.

Japan always showcased undaunted love for Sakura or as the world calls it Cherry Blossom. Starting 7th April till 21st April En has curated a Sakura special 9-course menu at a throwaway price, which can be experienced by the general public.  Although each and every course of this menu would leave you awestruck with their attention to detail there are some I cannot bypass.

Chef Muramatsu is a trained Japanese chef with more than 35 years of experience under his belt, his Sashimi platter with Salmon, Tuna & Mackerel is a blessing with the freshest fish imported from Japan and the Pockchoy Kobachi just works wonder with it.   Followed on with a pallet cleanser and an 8 piece Sushi platter is just beyond explanation, the precise balance of flavours and Kokuho rice makes the California Uramaki roll taste as if I never had them before.

Im not really a Gelatin fan but the Cherry blossom Panacotta with a hint of vanilla and fresh jelly is drop-dead gorgeous and makes for apt dessert on a sunny hot day. This is one of the best meals I have had in a long time.
