How about a place that’s been done exclusively considering just the beautifully mild autumn & fall weather, around the pool, in a posh hotel which has been standing tall for decades? What tops it all is they serve dinners only. This is Latitude 66 at Hyatt Regency, New-Delhi. The place is cordial and splendid overlooking a pool and is the apt spot to spend time with your loved ones, over a limited Indian offering.
The live kitchen is right next to you with a wide array of drinks. The chef has spent a substantial time in Middle-East which gives him the right grip on the grill section. My orders started with assorted non-vegetarian platter done specially for me which had Seekh-kawab, Tandoori-chicken, Mahi-tikka and Murgh-afghani where the Afghani murgh wins hands down with the mild flavours and perfect marination which made it melt in mouth. The Mahi tikka is done over a seabass and is tender cum flavorful too.
The Vegetarian offering had Khumani-ka-paneer & Bhutte-ke-kawab which is seasonal offering; where the apricot gives a tangy hint to the soft gooey cottage cheese. The bhutte-ke-kawab seems okey as they loose their mild flavours to the overpowering spices in all.
The mains section had Methi murgh which is a must try and gives unique clearly distinguishable flavour of methi on a light gravy of chicken topped with ginger julienne. The Nalli rogan josh is unique to itself, with nalli instead of usual meat cuts, where the gravy is done perfectly but the trotters seem under-cooked.
From the vegetarian section the Kadhai mushroom is a great rich option, where chunky sized mushrooms are tossed with bell-peppers, in a rich paste and would slide down happily with some nice bread.
The dessert section has 3 simple and old-school dishes which fits almost every Indians pallet; the Gulab-Jamun, Rasmalai and Kulfi where all there are simply flattering. The Gulab-jamun melts in mouth and is a definite repeat order, the Rasmalai is chilled and mildly flavoured by saffron and the Kulfi is rich.
The staff is kind enough to fetch you food apart from menu on your request & the place is open from 15 October to 15 February only. The PLF (pocket loosening factor) is INR 3000 for 2 and the suggested orders are Afghani Murgh, Methi Murgh and Gulab-Jamun.
