Monkey Bar

Monkey see, Monkey do– This is the thought in my head while entering the Monkey bar located in Vasant Kunj, New delhi. Why? Because I can clearly imagine a placed mobbed with so many people losing their sense of gravity, the blame goes to part alcohol and part music.

The brand started from Bangalore and is now in Bombay and Delhi too. Infact,Delhi came up with the second one in Connaught place. Now a party place is not the kind of a place that you would generally turn towards for food but somehow the idea has changed and the place holds a great name when it comes to burgers; I still had my bets against it, though just in the hope to see white as white. The facade of the place is distinct and can be located from the main-road; On entering the place it has mostly a grand size glass structure split in 2 floors where ground floor houses the dance floor, limited seating area and a pool table while the upper one is all seating with angular seating circling the dance floor.

I was in mostly for the food, so I placed my order of Butterfly chicken which is beautiful presentation of pan-tossed chicken with honey and sesame in a shell which is butterfly shaped, the taste is nothing extraordinary but the visual appeal scores in miles with its clean self. Saving the vegetarians from frowning is the veg variant of the same which goes by name of Flutterfly and comes with cottage-cheese instead of chicken.

The next order was Nachos, which is a massive serving of tortilla chips loaded with cheese and Jalapeno. Nothing fancy about the dish but it’s a good finger food which works well with any kind of drink. So is Finding Nemo, which is another name for Fish and chips and is a very staple diet in England.

From the mains section Kosha-Mangsho or the Bengali mutton dish which is something that seems interesting, as it was paired with a Malabar Parota coming from Kerala. The combination might seem a little confusing but the food from two extreme costal states worked well for me. Next up was the Keema Bao, I have mostly come across the vegetarian ones but a variant with minced meat was something that you must not miss; It is soft on the outside and juicy inside, a thing to simply devour and if you happen to feel its not as juicy as you expect it to be, then you have mutton broth served on the side, feel free to dive into it.

Last but not the least was the Chicken Katsu Burger where a chunky sized breast is laid with cabbage mayo and lettuce where the initial bite is a burst of sauces and that’s that; Beyond the sauces the burger is flat, all thanks to the overpowering sauces. It was juicy and the texture was apt but a lighter tone of sauces and more herbs would have worked magic.

The PLF for the place is 2000 INR for 2, the number to contact is 011(33106238) and the Keema-Bao is simply not to be missed.
