In the modern times there is no scarcity of cafes In any area but there are hardly any that take a dive like Re café based in Ambience mall, vasant kunj. To start with, the biggest differentiators is the menu itself which does not play in the safe waters like other new places, it is small yet compulsive and stuffed with number of old school dishes that don’t cross the borders of a home now and most starters come with a Pachadi.
The interiors are also modern and quirky with combinations of bright yellow, red and black and art works compiled by sheer stereo tape or even the relaxing chairs done with bicycle tires. Everything is done with utmost care matching the theme of cafe, the underlying idea was to have a place which gives a ride into the past and gives a nostalgic bite to ones who can associate.
The selection of finger foods was the most intriguing factor for me I ordered Banana flower cutlet, crispy rawa sardines, dhuar jimikand ke kawab and re worked chicken wings with blue cheese. The banana flower cutlet and dhuar jimikand ke kawab are both such vegetarian dishes that you won’t find them in any other place this makes them one half expensive commodity the other bit is the quality and taste which is very well taken care of by the chefs, specially the jimikand kawab is something you should not miss as it melts in your mouth and could be well compared to a great tasting mutton shami kawab.
After getting the hazy picture of mutton in my brain needed some of it and hence the teekha mutton shorba which is sublime jus of mutton cooked on slow heat and is served with few pieces of bread. Moving on was the regal mutton burger which is small-sized burger of mutton served with peculiarly good french fries which had some unusual taste of spices rolled on top of it, The patty was a bit undercooked here though.
For the main course it was the Kori pulimunchi and Nihari that I ordered where pulimunchi was perfect with mild spices and reminded me of my Kerala trip on the other hand the Nihari was a stark departure from the Awadhi as well as Delhi origins in colour and texture but it tasted good at the end of the day and that is what counts.
From the sweet section I had my go on the sinful twin sunday which was strawberry and vanilla loaded with a number of fresh-cut fruits which never goes wrong as a desert, for the drinks i suggest going in for Rosaline which is refreshing mix of rose over a base of ice.
The total PLF (pocket loosing factor) for 2 is 1500 INR and the place can be contacted on (011)33105049 for booking and orders. My suggestive orders from the place are Rosaline, Dhuar jimikand ke kawab and teekha mutton shorba .
