In the dying breed of Fine-dines and bars, lounge and cafe were the models to look forward to but with the oversupply they keep falling apart like a half baked cookie. Any place or concept that’s different is surely a fresh breathe of air and especially the one which stands out with a tall claim of the only one of their sort yet.
Welcome to Social, located in Defense colony market right opposite to Moets, this is the second successful branch in Delhi after the first one was a glittering success in Hauz-Khas Village; Of course Bombay and Bangalore have been covered before. The place has a very simple concept, The area is your meeting-spot, working cubical, free internet space all through the month every single day at a mere cost of INR 5,000 which is redeemable against food and drinks available on the menu which mostly seem a discounted price as compared to others doing the same. You might be someone who comes here everyday as a budding entrepreneur, designer or artist and work all day on laptop and conduct meetings or be the guy who just walked in for a casual evening coffee, everything is acceptable here with arms wide open.
The menu is a fusion although mostly Bombay’s street food oriented, so some might hugely appreciate it while others may not find it apt for their platter but it sure is the things that’s in demand for now. I was greeted with an Oreo mud-pot shake which is a thick Oreo shake in a small pot, topped with some fresh mint leaves, the appeal and taste of it was absolutely splendid, no reasons to complaint and a confident start id say.
Next in line was the Bombay bhelpuri salad, which is the lovely bhel-puri or the meal of common people on the run in Bombay twisted with a mix of fresh fruits and assorted greens giving it a healthy bend and tangy flavour; This is for someone who cant get over with his Bombay dreams just like me. The death wings is something that you must try if you anytime feel sleepy and still have lots and lots of work, rubbed with super hot chillies and topped with onion rings which somehow convey a silent message to stay away from the chicken but if somehow you have the gut made of Ghost-pepper and manage to finish one whole serving you would be awarded with lemonade which becomes quiet essential after a stage.
The Achmed’s mezze platter is a brave step of plating the whole mezze platter in a thali and making it look Indian although it has no Indian connection to it. The Pita did not seem to be as fresh as it was supposed to be but the samossa stuffed with cheese was a sweet reminder of It’s middle eastern origin although stuffing of minced meat would have just been perfect. The OMG burger is something that sounds like so big when you check it on menu with 2 tenderloin patty servings, a fried egg and a lot more but once plated you only wish it was bigger, the taste is great nothing to complaint on tenderloin part which is juicy and meaty on every morsel but the size turns out to be a disappointment somehow.
The place is has something to offer to everyone and is suruly worth a visit. The PLF for the place is 1400 INR for 2, The place can be contacted on 011 (46588445) for prior bookings and the suggested orders are Oreo mud-pot shake, Bombay bhel puri salad & Mutton-Biada roti.
